Stephen spent most of 2005 looking after his little son, Teddy, during the day, so opportunities to get into the studio were limited, and he reluctantly had to turn down a number of commissions. However, he was able to undertake a few commissions and some general design work, and June 2005 found him once again employed by the Cat Laughs comedy festival in Kilkenny, now sponsored by Smithwick's.

Stephen 'branded' the town by creating vaudeville-style posters and billboards with lights around at each venue. These brought a deliberately garish and ironically showbizzy look to Kilkenny for the festival.

Stephen's work was also seen on the cover of Trials and Tribunalations: The Best and Worst of the Tribunals, by Joe Taylor and Malcolm Douglas (New Island Books), published in November 2005.
